Share a cheer for our Personal Trainers!

Updated: Nov 11, 2022

We’re excited to introduce two new Personal Trainers (PTs) to our Maples team! It’s a pleasure to bring Nathan and Greg onboard, they’ll be joining Martin Podmore, our specialist, in running our sporting activities at Maples.

Martin has previously been managing these sessions by himself and is looking forward to having the two new PTs onboard. Martin has been a PT for 3 years, and his enthusiasm for the role shines through, especially when asking him his favourite part of the job:

“Taking the clients on a one-to-one session and sharing a flask of coffee with them makes a huge difference, building up that relationship during the sessions can be the key to having our clients open up and share their stories. Naturally building up those relationships in the sessions is part of the job that I love the most because they’re so much more personable and you’re able to tackle the issue together.”

We have an abundance of sporting activities available to our service users including; walking, gym groups, football, badminton, squash and table tennis. We also offer free swimming lessons with our swimming instructor Mandy, and one-to-one biking sessions around the local parks and specialised mountain bike trails.

Many studies show the benefits of physical activity for both physical and mental health. Getting active can release feel-good hormones that not only improve your mood and sleep, but can also help to ease anxiety and depression. Being active and exercising for even 10 minutes boost our mood, energy, and mental alertness.

If a client wants to get into exercise, one of the first things a key worker will suggest is the gym. Gym inductions are a great way to determine who our service user will work best with, if a client connects with a certain PT, we will tend to pair them together to ensure each service user has the best experience.

I asked our new PT’s about how they’re finding their first few weeks at the Maples. Greg had this to say:

“I’m really excited to join The Maples. I feel like I’m learning something new every day, which is something I’ve been really enjoying. I’m looking forward to getting involved in the sessions and helping to design the sessions so that they cater to everyone."
